This piece "Magic Barrel Racer" was started yesterday, as mentioned here. It finally got finished today, and the results are definitely satisfactory. It brings forth memories of the dress 봉순 wore while she was out on a date with 민혁, as shown below. Obviously, the patterns and style are different, but for some reason, that's the memory that came forth. A hat just like hers would go perfectly with this dress.
There was some uncertainty while making this dress, as the pink color seemed a little too soft and understated, and something brighter and louder was the more desired outcome, as the barrel racer, Fallon Taylor, whom this design was inspired by, is a bit more vibrant.
The concerns about the vibrance of the colors could not have been more unnecessary. The turquoise was added for the lower 깃 to give a bright pop of color. That had always been the original intention, to have the lower 깃 be brighter than the rest of the 한복, but there was a lot of uncertainty about which color to use. The original choice was to play it safe and go with magenta, but the available fabric wasn't fully prepared yet (it was going to be repurposed like the rest of this dress). Purple was already used on another design, so it seemed a bit overdone at the moment. And that's how the turqouise fabric was chosen. In this case, the turqouise fabric was not repurposed, it was from some new fabric purchased at Hobby Lobby earlier this year.
The upper 깃 in white was also added, and in the traditional 한복, it is removable. For the 한복 I make, the upper 깃 is not removable, simply because it's easier to just sew it on, and while washing the outfit, it's one less thing to worry about going missing in the washer and dryer. I know for some that's not the preferred way of doing things, but to each their own.
Here's the 치마 part being pleated so it will fit properly when sewn to the 저고리.
Here are the finished pleats on the 치마 before it is attached it to the 저고리. Gathering, instead of pleating used to be the method used, however, it didn't look as smooth as pleating, so pleating became the method used by the one woman design and sewing team at "The Flower Realm by 사극 Paradise."
The finished product! Though this is part of the "Geek Girl Collection," plenty of different women would look absolutely adorable in this dress, regardless of age or personal interests. This is in a size M, and will fit up to a 34-C Cup bra size. It's not on the website yet, but it will be listed later this week, and a notice will be posted here.
And, if you're interested in meeting the one woman sewing and design team that makes up the fashion portion of "The Flower Realm by 사극 Paradise," that woman is me, in the picture below, in the pink and green 한복.
