Working on a New Project

Saturday afternoon in Albuquerque, New Mexico spent working on a new 한복 sewing project, before heading to Korean Class across town at 1:35 PM US Mountain Daylight Time.  There's always a little bit of anxiety before heading to class, even though I'm doing well at it, it's the transition for working on whatever 한복 sewing project is occupying me at the time to getting to that academic mindset.

Yesterday, I finished a one piece dress called "Horse Crazy Girl on A Sugar High," which I wrote about in a previous blog.  These hands and this brain can't stay idle for too long without finding another project to work on.  So, an additional one piece 한복 dress is being added to the Geek Girl collection.  It will be called "Magical Barrel Racer," in reference to the famous barrel racer, Fallon Taylor, as shown below.  Prior to getting into the 한류 wave, I was really into riding horses, and someone like her made it okay for an eccentric woman like me to even so much as show interest in the sport.  So, I decided to make a one piece 한복 dress to continue showing my admiration for her, even though I don't ride horses anymore.

 The basic 저고리 part without the 깃  and the sleeves is currently finished.  The 깃 is added next, and because it's going to be a one piece dress, after the 깃, work is done on the 치마 part.  Below is what has been worked on so far.   Sleeves and ties are generally added last due to the possibility of them getting tangled up while sewing on the 치마.  Because   a stopping place was reached, it was a good time to take a break and write about the fun, soothing, and methodical process that is experienced daily in "The Flower Realm" by 사극 Paradise 한복 studio.  Yes, these are worked on everyday, by just one person (me), and at least 4 are made per week.  This brain of this crazy 한복 creating lady is very, very active!

Try not to mind all the fabric in the background.  The fabric is very inspiring for additional new ideas, projects, and color combinations. For "Magical Barrel Racer," a pink unicorn print polyester repurposed fabric is being used.

The Geek Girl Collection exists because the next upcoming show these 한복 will be sold is the "We Rock The Spectrum" Autism Center craft show.  There are many eccentric moms in the Autism world (I'm one of them), and there's an enjoyment and appreciation of eccentric colors and prints.  Because of that, a detour was taken from the usual prints, patterns, and color schemes to make some wild stuff.  The eccentric moms of Albuquerque are also more open to trying out new styles that deviate from the Western Norm.  So, it's my way of showing appreciation.

Generally, the preferred fabric type from the one woman design team of "The Flower Realm" by 사극 Paradise, especially for the 치마 is the 3/4 Border Polycotton Aloha Print fabrics.  Those come out beautifully!  However, when the budget decreases, one has to be more creative with fabric choices and styles, and it's a great way to learn more, develop more, and increase the market.
