American Perspectives: Ma Zhaixing Gets Prince Bo to Reveal His Identity ("The Wolf" Ep. 19)

사극 Paradise 2024. 8. 26. 09:56

One of my favorite moments of affection

In spite of Prince Bo continuing to push Ma Zhaixing away, the romantic tension is escalating, and their friends on both sides are egging it on.  I feel that saying "sexual tension" is a bit much.  Love, affection, and sexuality tend to be expressed more tastefully in both Chinese and Korean television, and I'm all about it.  Frankly, it makes sex much more interesting again, but that's beside the point.

At this point, Zhaixing knows, without a doubt, that Prince Bo is Wolf Boy.  There is no way in hell that he can get away with fooling her.  He has revealed himself (unknowingly) in subtle, and not so subtle ways.  Such as his ability to communicate with the wind.  And it's because of the wind incident that she has decided enough is enough, and she's going to do something about it.

She takes him to the edge of a cliff where she keeps asking if he's Wolf Boy, even though he continues to insist he isn't.  This is the point where she finally has to do the unexpected and take a huge risk.  She steps backward, off the super high cliff, and free falls.  Because Wolf Boy has exceptional capabilities with jumping and landing, he is able to effectively go after her and catch her.  He feels this huge sense of relief that he caught her, and the way in which he shows her affection communicates that.  And it's done beautifully.  No yucky porno tongue, just a beautiful pressing of his forehead against her forehead, and then a kiss on her forehead.  To me, that is so much more interesting than porno tongue and nudity.

She looks up at him and says, "I knew you wouldn't let me fall."

I know some of you may disagree with her methodology and find it manipulative.  1)Remember, this is a television show: it's not real.  2)Sometimes to get your man to tell the truth, you have to frighten him a bit.  I'm well aware that number 2 sounds very problematic, but it's an unpleasant reality, even among some of the most progressive of men.  Whether it's fear of emasculation, rejection, or anger (because some lack the maturity to handle consequence), sometimes, you have to scare them into honesty.
