Yes, he's referring to Michael Jackson. Tan Jianci is very inspired by MJ. And making every step more exact like Michael isn't a bad idea. For those of us who watched "This is It," we may remember the part where the back up dancers were told they were "pretty good," and they knew it was not a compliment, and they had to do the choreography again until it was beyond "pretty good."
So, my takeaway from making every step more exact like Michael is to not be content with "pretty good," to keep striving for excellence.
