Everybody, including the people watching this show, thinks Prince Long Qing has major advantages over Ning Que.  He's a prince.  He's the darling of Xiling.  He's practically a cultivation prodigy.  Actually, I'm reminded of those child prodigies everybody dotes on when they're still young and cute, but when adulthood hits, it becomes an entirely different ball game, which isn't much different from what we have going on here.  He's looked upong as a shoe-in for the Knowing Level.  Once again, his ego gets in the way, as do the years of being accustomed to so many people doting on him (just like a child prodigy), and he handles the slightest of competition exactly like a child.

Why? Instead of focusing on completing his own steps, he cannot get over the fact that Ning Que became a student of Fu Zi, instead of him.  While Ning Que has been focusing on getting to the next level, sometimes in a playful and comedic manner, but not in a childish manner.  At least not in the sense of sabotaging others who might pose a threat at stealing all the attention and flattery.  He focuses on learning from the other students of Fu Zi, and embraces them as family.  Long Qing on the other hand, has been dwelling on his bruised ego.

When the two finally meet again, after Ning Que passed the tests to become a student of Fu Zi, and Long Qing did not, Long Qing kept harassing Ning Que.  It actually would have beneficial in that moment for the two men to work together, but no.   Long Qing just had to provoke Ning Que by putting Sang Sang's freedom on the line, which is something that Ning Que has absolutely no tolerance for.  So, they make a very risky bet as to who will reach their respective next levels first.  Ning Que doesn't expect to win, so he creates this high risk bet as a result of Yan Se's advice, which is: "If you can't win, run."  It's his way of keeping Long Qing back because he knows he doesn't have the tools to defeat him just yet, or so he thinks. But, when Long Qing continues to harass him to the point that he has to defend himself, that's when things begin to turn.  In order to defend himself against such a powerful force that he lacks the experience in fighting, Ning Que fires the 13th Talisman arrow, hitting Long Qing and destroying the Qihae and Xueshan acupoints, rendering Long Qing permanently unable to cultivate. As a result, Ning Que advanced to the next level, while it was game over for Long Qing.  Ning Que's mentality was to simply run away if he couldn't defeat Long Qing, which most certainly worked in his favor, as he knew what his limits were, and he wasn't blinded by image, popularity, and ego.

Long Qing, on the other hand, per the Daoism maniac: "Your eyes are blinded by too much flattery and fawning." Because of this, he thinks he can do more than he actually can.  He believes himself to be far superior.  He thinks he is invincible.l. Because of this, he doesn't know when to quit, and it cost him dearly.  This is also indicative of how just because someone has all the advantages and is the blatantly favored choice, doesn't mean they're going to win.
