This will definitely not be the only couples fan art that I will have of Dongfang Qingcang and Orchid. Ther will most certainly be at least one more. In the meantime, though, let me talk about this piece in Set 1 of my "Love Between Fairy and Devil" anime fan art series (artwork by Two_ii).
The image above is from one of my favorite scenes when Orchid's identity a fairy cannot be verified, and the powers that be jump to the conclusion that she is a spy for the Moon Tribe, and must be executed at once. Granted, because of the Bone Orchid bracelet, she is protected by a wall of hellfire which most certainly does not help her case!
Because Dongfang Qingcang can feel everything she feels, he is motivated to save and protect her, instead of literally leaving her hanging. Because of him, she is kept safe from an exceedingly unfair execution.
What I love about this scene is that we get to see Dongfang Qingcang's awesome wings of smoke and fire. I wish we had gotten to see them more often, as I find them to be quite sexy. They just added an awesomely dramatic appearance to Dongfang Qingcang's entire look.
While this scene isn't the turning point just yet, before he goes to save Orchid, a shift in his thinking is starting to occur. He's not being as self serving as he once was while supporting and helping Orchid. He doesn't interrupt her prior to her fairy ceremony because he knows it's important to her. He moves away from Siming Hall to battle Lord Changheng because she treasures it, and he doesn't want to destroy it. Some may say, it was still solely to avoid experiencing unpleasant emotions, however, in prior episodes, he did experience her unpleasant emotions, but he was able to handle them. Whereas, Lord Changheng couldn't have cared less about where their battle would take place, just as long as he can destroy Dongfang Qingcang.
However, when Dongfang Qingcang chooses to take Orchid to the Moon Tribe, he is still being somewhat self serving. Driven by the reason that if she dies, so does he. He also doesn't consider her feelings by taking her away from her home without asking. When he recreated her home in his realm, he did it to make her happy, and so she wouldn't cause problems, but he didn't fully understand why it wasn't 100% helping.
I love the scene that this image represents because even though he's still self serving at this point, you see hints of him helping her for her benefit, and not his. A slight shift away from sociopathic tendencies into empathic tendencies is beginning to occur.
