American Perspectives: When Your Father Chooses the Wife. "Ever Night" Ep. 16 Response
Princess Li Yu is an interesting character, as she spent many years away from her people, intermarried into the Golden Horde, whom I presume to be Mongol, or possibly Turkic. It seemed like she was willing to return to the Tang Empire once her husband passed away, but appearances can be deceiving. It turns out, she didn't want to return to Tang, and she's miserable in the Royal Family.
Her father's wife is part of a Demon Sect, and the child between the two is the favored one. Meanwhile, Hunyuan, the older son, and Li Yu's full brother, would be the logical choice for Crown Prince (if we're using age and gender. His ability is to be determined), but he is tossed to the side. The real logical choice would be Princess Li Yu, but due to her gender, there's high probability that it isn't happening.
A huge turning point occurred when the Crown Prince "Little Sixer" was poisoned, and the Emperor immediately assumed Li Yu was the culprit. When Li Yu accused the Empress, that's when things really got ugly, and the Emperor sided with the Empress. That never goes well, and for the time being Li Yu is forbidden from entering the palace. I'm seeing the beginnings of a very ugly fight, and a potential overthrow in the near future. Which is causing me to speculate that perhaps the eternal night is not something evil, but maybe some sort of cultural detox. I am looking forward to finding out.
