As expected, just as the romance begins to bloom between Crown Prince and 민재이, the writers disrupt it by creating some sort of crisis because the leads can't be together this early in the game. The disruption that enters the mix: the very convincing possibility that 민재이 may indeed be guilty of committing the crimes she claims she didn't commit. It's more likely than not that 민재이 has been framed. I do think it would make for some very interesting viewing if she actually did commit the crimes. Her story is beginning to fall apart as she conveniently can't remember important details, and she did purchase the poison that killed her family. And, if memory serves, the ministers behind the undermining of the Crown Prince did mention that this wasn't their doing, but the timing was certainly perfect. We also deal with 민재이 going on at length throughout the show that life isn't fair for 조선 women, and her killing her family to get out of being married (because she'd no longer be able to do her investigations, period) would actually make the most sense. As crazy as it sounds, I kind of want her to be the culprit because I want to see how it all plays out. Plus, just as it's been done with female leads in all genres since the beginning of time, I want the male leads to find a way to convince themselves that her criminal activity is forgiveable and doesn't make her any less loveable. I would love to see those tables turn. I could totally see her fooling a bunch of people, and not wanting to get married due to her many ambitions. Or, has there been a plan in place all along for her to take down the Crown Prince?
Like I said, though, odds are pretty great that she's framed, but I'd be interested in seeing it go the other way. It's time for the male leads to fall in love with a female jerk for a change.
