명진, or as I like to call him "Monkey Paw Guy," is a good example of someone who is really smart and talented, but because it doesn't conform to a specific image, it is dismissed by family.  Actually, his family is embarassed by his eccentricities and investigative abilities because they are a high ranking political family. 

However, it's because of his eccentricities that he is able to mingle with many more 조선 people that his family can't, due to class standing.  He has the ability to empathize with the commoners and to understand them, due to his daily interactions.  Those are the kinds of things that would make him an amazing political figure.

Because his family is more concerned with keeping their status (and it's understandable.  During that time, there was very little opportunity for upward mobility, and I'm sure it was a cutthroat fight to keep your status high), they have forgotten what needs to be done to be a great politician.

It's unfortunate that they are not able to recognize his genius just yet.
