I'm still working on finding a suitable rhythm when I write about my different reactions to various C-Dramas and K-Dramas, as sometimes what I write sounds like nothing more than a re-cap. I really want to try and avoid that as much as I can. That being said, what I would prefer to do is find something of interest from the string of episodes I've been watching in one sitting, and writing a response to that. So, without further adieu... Princess Chun...the girl with a crush that just won't stop! I feel for her because she wants Yan Xun so bad, but her privilege does her a gross disservice in this situation. He isn't some new, shiny item that she can just have simply because she feels entitled to it. Though in this case, her entitlement is more innocent than demanding. Because her older brother can't stand seeing her cry, he enables this cluelessness by continuing to push Yan Xun on her, even if it's clear he doesn't want her. There are many instances where preventable disservices are done to her simply because her brother her does n't want to see her upset. A rabbit and saddle that were intended for Chu Qiao were snapped up by her. Because, innocent entitlement. She may not have demanded it, but because she wanted Yan Xun so desperately, she immediately presumed those were hers. Because of this entitlement, it never occurs to her to ask who the gifts are intended for, and even if she did, due to her privilege; she does n't yet have it in her to handle not getting what she wants. Brothers, Fathers, and Grandfathers (yes, I'm singling you out because in these circumstances I notice men can be the worst offenders, though actually, let me include grandmothers on the list, too. Grandmothers can also get really bad with this) : this is why you have to be ok with seeing the pretty girl in your family cry. If you prolong a situation that isn't meant to happen, it
will
make things so much worse.
In Episode 19, Yan Xun does finally break it to her that he's not interested after she once again presumes a gift intended for Chu Qiao is automatically hers. I don't dislike her. I dislike that she's misguided, and she's surrounded by people who enable it. Consort Wei does her a huge favor by reminding her that she's acting out of line by bringing Yan Xun into the inner palace to play games with her, when it is strictly a women's only zone. (With the exception of the Emperor; and there's a reason for that: it's a means to ensure that any pregnancies that occur were solely the responsibility of him, and not some random dude just waltzing his way in). However, for now, it seems Consort Wei is the only voice of reason for her, as she's surrounded by so many men who do her a gross disservice by doting on her.
Of course, she is devastated, and most likely mortified. She was after all, getting really presumptious, and way too close for comfort. As I said before, this is a problem that could have been completely avoided if her brother stopped trying to prevent her from feeling the necessary emotions of sadness and disappointment, so it would n't lead to the even worse emotions of mortification and anger.
