During the Christmas Season, I created a ton of unique 사극 anime fan art mini print fun packs. I didn't sell as many as I would have liked, mainly because I wasted a lot of time at Craft Fairs and Christmas shows which do not have a large number of 사극 fans, or people who have the same profound appreciation for deep Korean culture that I do. So, in all fairness, what could I expect?
I really like these mini print fun packs because it's a 사극 equivalent to the abundance of K-Pop related variety packs that are circulating anywhere that sells Korean or Asian related merchandise. A frustration of mine, as a 사극 fanatic, is that when I go to these K-Merch stores in places like Honolulu or LA, or even K-related events, such as K-Play, there is a profound overabundance of merch in relation to the same major K-Pop artists, very little K-Drama, and definitely no 사극 merch. Where I'm from (Albuquerque, NM) the cultural history that gets attended to is very often Japanese. Which is cool, but that also means I really have to do some deep searching online to find anything in relation to Korean History and Culture that isn't K-Pop, and that especially isn't BTS or Squid Game. I created these for those of us who are 사극 fans, and we want to express and display our association with it with the same pride as an ARMY expresses their association with BTS. I enjoy reaching the people who watch these because they love learning about the history. Granted, many of these shows are not historically accurate, and some of the more current fusion 사극 are absolutely not historically accurate. But, I like reaching the people who are aware of that, and who, while watching these shows decide to go get some good books on the subject matter and do some further reading, while simultaneously enjoying the show, instead of being that jerk who then tears the show down because it wasn't historically accurate.
These are definitely a conversation starter, as they aren't mass produced, and the images are original. So, people who may not have watched these shows may be drawn in by the awesome imagery, and will start asking more questions. For those of us in the US, it's a perfect opportunity to let people know that there is so much more to the K-Wave than BTS. In many ways, the historical events that some of these shows are based on would actually provide a back story to the K-Wave, and help some of the cultural differences make a little more sense.
For those of us in the fandoms, having something like these in our possession, and in plain view for all to see, it's a good way to find additional 사극 fans whom you can discuss these shows with.
I think these are better than photocards, because let's face it, sometimes photocards can be a little boring. Come on now, you can just look at those on Pinterest or Google Images, or on any online search. I think these are much more fun and interesting because they are a creative artistic take on different characters that you can't find just anywhere, and it's something you have that your friends probably don't. And sometimes, it's just fun having a bunch of little extra items that remind you of your favorite shows, especially when you're at work, and you're bored out of your mind! Back when I worked at the Welfare Office in Albuquerque, NM; yes, I had posters of BTS on my wall (I was new to the K-Wave), but I also had a bunch of posters from "Strong Woman Do Bong Soon" on my wall, which I was so much more enthusiastic about. It kept things interesting, and people definitely had to stop by my office to take a look. The poster of 봉순 even inspired one of my co-workers to change her hairstyle!
In each pack, you get a laminated 5x7 print. The lamination prevents the print from tearing easily, so if you want to pin or tape it to your wall, you don't have to worry about ruining the print when the time comes for you to take it down. Plus, if you feel so inclined, you can glue a magnet to the back, and stick it to the refrigerator. You also get three fan art stickers. These particular stickers work best on flat surfaces, so I don't recommend putting them on your water bottle, but they do work great in decorating your notebook or journal.
The prints include a variety of characters from different shows such as "나의 나라," 화랑," "기황후," 추노," "Warrior 백동수," "The Pirates," "Shine or Go Crazy," "Mr. Queen," "River Where the Moon Rises," "Scholar Who Walks The Night," "Faith," and "The Princess Agents."
These are a fun and unique pack to have, as it isn't the same cookie cutter variety pack that everyone else has. And there is high probabililty that it will stimulate a variety of discussions involving Korean history.
