“Love and Redemption” can be viewed on Viki or Youtube . Dialogue adapted from English subtitle translations by "Destined Love Team at Viki.com." "Love and Redemption," is based on the novel "Liu Li Mei Ren Sha," by Shi Si Lang. The writings presented here are based on observations from the television series.
Xuanji is in her room, drinking several jugs of wine. "I fancy you," she slurs, "yet you don't know my intention." The tears stream down her face. "Sifeng, I finally understand how you felt in the past."
"Senior, Heroine Chu has drunk a lot of wine," a Dianjing Valley sect disciple dutifully reports to Hao Chen. "She's very drunk. But she's still not willing to let go of the wine jar. She won't listen to me. Senior, please check on her."
Hao Chen climbs up the steps to her room. The people who should be seeing her are Linglong and Little Six. Not him!
"But is it too late now?" Xuanji says out loud.
Hao Chen walks into her room, listening in on her soliloquy.
"I'm sure you've been afraid, anxious, shaken, as well, am I right?" Xuanji continues, completely unaware of Hao Chen's creepy and intrusive presence.
She takes another drink. "They say...you're a demon, and I'm the God of War. That's why I must kill you. Kill you?" Xuanji laughs bitterly. "How can I kill you? How can I kill you? This is..." she shakes her head.
Hao Chen observes her scornfully.
"I...I would rather quit being the God of War." She takes another swig. "Sifeng...I know it's too late for me to understand your feelings, but no matter what, you shouldn't have lied to me in the first place. You shouldn't have lied to me. Why did you lie to me?" She takes a huge gulp, some of the wine spilling down her neck.
Hao Chen continues to watch with disgust. He turns and walks out, realizing there is nothing he can say right now that can manipulate her.
Xuanji passes out on the hardwood floor with a thud.
She is later in her bed, sleeping soundly. She's tightly holding the hairpin Sifeng gave her, while the Lugong Puzzle is next to her hand.
"Xuanji," she remembers Sifeng saying. "My father gave my mother this hairpin as a token of love. Now, I'll give it to you."
Xuanji smells something in her sleep. She opens her eyes. "Purple Fox," she whispers.
She looks over, and the Fox Demon materializes. Xuanji sits straight up in surprise. "Purple Fox?"
Fox Demon sits by her on the edge of the bed. "Your nose is pretty sensitive."
"Are you fully healed?" Asks Xuanji. "It's dangerous for you to come here."
"Don't worry about me," says Fox Demon. "I met Ting Nu and Liu Yihuan, and Ting Nu treated my injuries. I came here because I was worried about you. I've heard about Sifeng's matter, as well. He is the Twelve Feathers Rose Gold Bird, and you fought. I didn't expect him to be a demon, as well. But, do you mind that he's a demon?"
"Shouldn't I mind that?" Asks Xuanji.
"If so..." Says Fox Demon. "You see, you treated my injuries. You even became friends with Ting Nu and I. Sifeng isn't an evil demon. I think he was in the dark about the relationship of Lize Palace, and Tianxu Hall, as well. So, you can't..."
"This is a different story!" Xuanji interjects tearfully. "He shouldn't have lied to me. He's the person I trust the most. But he hid his true identity from me. This...What about the words he said in the past? I don't know which of them are true or false. I..."
"You'll know the truth," says Fox Demon. "When you bring him here and ask him, am I right? If he's lying to you, you can just chop him up. But, if there's a misunderstanding, you two should talk it out, and solve it. You two should find a solution together. Misunderstanding is the worst thing that could happen between a couple. If you miss out on him this time, maybe you'll miss out forever. You'll regret it."
Xuanji pauses.
Fox Demon stands up. "Fine. I understand now. Seems like Xuanji has made up her mind. Since you've made up your mind, I'll find Sifeng and tell him that you don't want to see him again."
Xuanji's eyes widen, and she gets flustered.
"I'll ask him to give up," Fox Demon continues. "And you two should sever your ties."
Xuanji jumps right up and grabs Fox Demon's arm. "No! I didn't mean that! I want to see him. It's just that..."
"You don't know how to face him?"
Xuanji nods.
Linglong is sitting on an island of rocks in the middle of a river, late at night. The intrusive thoughts are the most relentless at this ungodly hour.
"Linglong, you're mine now," she remembers Wu Tong saying during the recent battle with Lize Palace. His reason for saying so makes her skin crawl, and all the baths in the world couldn't clean it off. He was intimate with her while her primordial spirit was powerless to push through and stop it. "Why are you siding with a traitor?" He asked her.
"Who's yours?" Linglong had snapped. "Shameless man!"
"Do you forget how we were intimate together?"
She looks back and notices every disciple near by heard that. Her face burns in humiliation. No one is going to believe that it was without her consent.
"I couldn't sleep well without you, you know?"
Then she remembers the speculators. Those who spread rumors, and formed opinions on just that.
"So it's her, the young lady of Shaoyang Sect. She had an interesting relationship with Wu Tong."
"It's no wonder she could still be saved, even after joining Tianxu Hall."
"I think she's just trying to save herself."
The obnoxious, "knowing" male laughter. She feels like a butterfly in a sealed jar.
Little Six walks across the rocks, and stands near her. Lately, she has been skittish about being touched, so he knows to keep a distance according to her mood and body language.
"Linglong, it's me," says Little Six.
"How did you know I was here?" The angry clouds of PTSD begin to fade.
"When we were still in the Shaoyang Sect, you would hide beside the lake whenever you were sad. I know all about it."
"Just leave me alone for now, okay?" Says Linglong.
"You've been unhappy ever since you regained consciousness. Do you have something on your mind? Can you tell me about it?"
Linglong doesn't answer.
"Fine. I'll stay here," says Little Six. "You can tell me when you feel like it. I'm always here for you."
Linglong wipes a tear. She has doubts. Many men will say they are here for a woman, until it's something involving her sexuality that may be deemed a threat. At the moment, she has no compelling reason to believe that Little Six will stick around if she ever does feel comfortable with telling him about everything Wu Tong has done to her.
Fox Demon is savoring some wine. She sees Xuanji looking at her, she hands her the jug. Xuanji shakes her head.
"Purple Fox, tell me. Why must it be Lize Palace? Why must he be the Rose Gold Bird? Why is he defending that evil demon? That demon killed my mother. What should I do? What should I do?"
Fox Demon puts down the wine jug. "Xuanji, think about Sifeng. There's nothing he could've done. He was just a child when your mother was killed. He couldn't decide what his master wanted to do. To him, his master is his benefactor. And Liu Yihuan told me that his master is his father, as well."
Xuanji looks at her in shock.
"He only knew about that recently. Tell me. What should Sifeng do, then? It's hard for him to decide."
"This can't be," whispers Xuanji.
"Xuanji, I know. It's tough for you to endure the shock and sadness of the truth. I'm sure Sifeng is suffering, as well. I've lived for 1,000 years. I do understand life to a certain extent. A lifetime may seem like a long time, but actually, we only have enough time to pursue one belief in a lifetime. So, it'll depend on whether to pursue righteousness, or your heart."
"But it's useless if I pursue my heart on my own," says Xuanji.
"You're right. That's why you need to know what Sifeng is thinking, as well. I'll ask Liu Yihuan to find Yu Sifeng. You two must meet up, and explain everything clearly."
"But I'm returning to Shaoyang Sect tomorrow," says Xuanji.
Fox Demon pats her on the shoulder. "Don't worry. I'll find you somehow. Wait for my good news."
The full moon shines over Linglong and Little Six.
"It's all my fault," says Linglong.
Little Six sits down next to her. "What did you say?"
"It's my fault that Wu Tong captured me, right?"
"How is that your fault?" Asks Little Six.
"But all of them are saying that. I didn't wish for Wu Tong to capture me at all. But all of them are despising me after they heard what Wu Tong said."
"Linglong, you don't need to care about them. Just pretend that you heard nothing."
"But I did hear them. Why should I pretend not to hear it?" Asks Linglong. What Little Six doesn't understand is that many female victims of sexual assault have to deal with men operating under the presumption that they, too, can touch and harrass her without consequence now. Because in the minds of many men, rape and sexual assault are things that only happen to virgins. Not sexually active women. "It has happened. Why must I deny the truth and lie to myself? Will you join them? Will you laugh at me?"
Little Six sighs. "When I was young, the children in my village always teased me for being an orphan. I could only pretend not to hear it. Because if I cared about their insults, they would insult me even more. We can't seal people's mouths. But we can choose not to listen. Linglong, you did nothing wrong. At least, you're not guilty of it." He holds her hand. "Don't worry. I will always accompany you. It will be over eventually, okay?"
Linglong nods.
Linglong is finally asleep in her bed, when she awakens and sees an outline of Wu Tong's face through the paper covered window. Her heart beats rapidly. She sits straight up. Luckily, no one is there. Linglong breathes a sigh of relief.
She looks to her side. He's in her room, in front of her door. He disappears, and then reappears in front of her bed.
"Return to me right now!" He demands.
Linglong covers her face and screams.
He appears next to her on the bed, and he grabs the back of her neck, moving her face closer to his. "You'll always be mine! You will never escape me!" He moves in to kiss her, but she pushes him away.
Linglong wakes up, sitting upright in her bed, realizing it was a nightmare. "No!" She screams.
She begins to sob, as she's not even safe in her sleep. Not even safe with Little Six in the room next door.
Sifeng is in the memorial room full of candles and memorial tablets. He is sitting in front of his father's casket, burning some papers.
"Many years ago, a disciple of Lize Palace fell in love with the daughter of Dianjing Valley Sect's old leader," his father had said. "They could have lived happily together. They even had a child. But the cultivators took away the sect leader's daughter by force. In the end, she committed suicide."
Sifeng opens up the portrait of his mother. He sees a larger portrait of her displayed behind her memorial tablet. He kneels in front of his father's coffin. He recalls angry words from his father, sadness from Xuanji, and being caught in the middle.
Little Silver Flower quietly stands behind him. She kneels next to him, and kowtows to Palace Master's coffin. "Palace Master, Master didn't want to listen to me. I can only beg you now. Now that you're in heaven, I hope you can bless Master, so that he can learn something from your past mistake. I hope he'll take the Heartless Pill, and forget about Chu Xuanji. And I hope that the demon clan will thrive. So that we can kill all those humans. Dianjing Valley Sect, Fuyu Island, Shaoyang Sect, I hope every one of them dies!"
"Little Silver Flower," says Sifeng. "What nonsense are you saying? Get out!"
"Fine," Little Silver Flower pouts. She was admittedly playing her cards in order to score with Sifeng further down the road, maybe even tonight. Unfortunately, it did not work in her favor. Even if it did, the power dynamic would be skewed in a very bad way. So, it's definitely a blessing that her infatuation is unrequited. It wouldn't end well.
Sifeng looks up at the coffin, and burns another piece of paper.
The disciples bow as Yuan Lang strolls through the hallway.
"Palace Master."
He looks in the memorial room, and sees Sifeng kneeling in front of his father's casket. He quietly enters the room.
"The Gold Feather Medallion is in your hands now," says Sifeng. "Why did you come here?"
"You don't need to be so hostile," says Yuan Lang. "We come from the same clan. I wish for our clan to thrive, as well. Actually, we can work together."
Just being near Yuan Lang makes Sifeng feel slimy. Sifeng snorts derisively. "You killed your own clan members. You still dare to propose a collaboration?"
"The people whom I killed were useless. But you're different. Once you break the shackles of the Twelve Feathers Bloodline, you'll be able to become one of the most powerful demons."
"Oh? You want to borrow my power? You need to show me your sincerity. Why don't you tell me what exactly you are up to?" Asks Sifeng.
"The things that I want to do," says Yuan Lang, "are beneficial to demons naturally. Do you know the identity of the Rose Gold Bird clan 1,000 years ago? We were the personal guards of King Asura. We were the first platoon to attack the heavens! Our clan was glorious then. Unlike now! We can only hide in the mortal realm, and cover our faces with masks in order to hide our demon powers. We'll revive the Devil Star, and dominate the three realms! By then, we'll be able to do whatever we want within the three realms, and everyone will bow to us."
Sifeng slowly stands up. "The Devil Star was dead long ago. Stop daydreaming."
"You are so close with the Shaoyang Sect. Don't tell me you don't know this? The Crystal Lamp in their forbidden ground contains the core of the Devil Star. As long as we save Wu Zhiqi, and use the Juntian Hoop and Chehai Hook to unseal the Crystal Lamp, we'll be able to revive the Devil Star, and we can pay them back for our humiliations."
"Since that's the case," says Sifeng, "I still don't understand something. What has this got to do with Xuanji. Why are you making things difficult for her?"
"I've told you enough. Why don't you show me your sincerity, as well? I'll tell you my goal after that."
"So, what exactly do you want me to do?" Sifeng asks warily. Will this game with Yuan Lang ever end?
