American Perspectives: Extracting Linglong's Primordial Spirit Pt. 2 ("Love and Redemption" Ep. 33)

"Second Senior, I still owe you a drink.  We were going to finish this wine, and listen to your story together, but I didn't expect you to leave us just like that."

Sifeng, Xuanji, Little Silver Flower, and Teng She come across three Shaoyang disciples in the forest, gathered at Chen Min Jue's shrine.

"Minyan, you traitor," says a disciple.  "I will definitely capture you and make you confess in front of Second Senior."

"But I still don't believe that Minyan is behind this," says First Senior.

"First Senior, you're still defending him, even now?  You saw Second Senior's body when they sent him back, right?"

"If Minyan joined Tianxu Hall because he didn't have a choice, he should've returned to us when Tianxu Hall asked him to come here!"

"I think this is a huge blow to Master," says First Senior.  "We should go and visit him."

The three disciples leave, not noticing Xuanji and her friends behind them.  Xuanji and her friends decide to visit the shrine, while Teng She reluctantly trails behind.

Xuanji kneels.  "Sorry, Second Senior, it was all my fault.  I didn't manage to save you.  They should've taken me instead of you while we were there.  Don't worry.  I will find out the truth and avenge you."

 

 

 

Xuanji quietly enters Linglong's room with Teng She following behind.  She kneels beside the unconscious Linglong.  Xuanji holds her hand, and touches her cheek.

Little Silver Flower and Sifeng enter the room.

"Linglong, we found a way to save you," says Xuanji.  "When you get better, we'll find Sixth Senior together.  Please wait a little longer."

"Teng She, come and examine Linglong's condition," says Sifeng.

Teng She snakes his neck around, stalling for time.

"I'll make you some Snowflake Beef," says Sifeng.

Teng She coughs, and gets moving.  "I just need to re-summon the other half of her primordial spirit, right?  No problem.  Just watch."

With a snap, and a point of his index and middle fingers, three streams of orange flame energy generate.  They hit Linglong in the face, before the streams travel down her body.

Nothing happens.  "What's going on?"  Asks Xuanji.

"Tss!"  Teng She points his finger in the air.  "Again."  Once again, with a snap and a point, he aims for Linglong.

Nothing.
"You!"  Says Xuanji.

Teng She snakes his head.

Little Silver Flower giggles.  She can't help herself.  Watching the spirit beast diva fail is hilarious.  "Someone kept boasting that he's a heavenly officer.  I think your powers are weaker than your boasting skill."

"Sss!  Sss!  Sss!"  Scolds Teng She.  "Stupid rat snake, shut up!"

"You're a snake, as well!"  Little Silver Flower fires back.

"Wait!"  Says Teng She.  "Logically, her primordial spirit will return to her if I try to summon it, no matter how far away it is.  Unless..."

"Unless what?"  Xuanji asks anxiously.

"Unless her primordial spirit is trapped within another body," answers Teng She.

"It'll be troublesome if that's the case," Sifeng sighs.

"Let me see what's going on by examining her primordial spirit," says Teng She.  He shoots flame energy into Linglong's head.

 

 

 

The Tianxu Hall Linglong runs outside the huge, dark, cave lair, and into the blinding daylight.  She blocks Ruo Yu and Little Six from entering.  "Wu Tong gege told me that I'm not a puppet.  Wu Tong gege likes me for who I am.  He said I can do what ever I want."

Little Six snorts derisively.  Most men will say that to their wife or girlfriend...as long as it stays within their personal preferences.  

"I'm too lazy to bother with you," says Little Six.

A burst of yellow energy radiates from Linglong's body.  She freezes.

"It's Sixth Senior," They hear Xuanji's voice coming from the Tianxu Hall Linglong.

Xuanji is sitting over the unconscious Linglong, attempting to communicate.

"What's wrong?" Asks Little Six.

"Sixth Senior!"  Says  Xuanji.  "I heard his voice!"

"Sixth Senior, I'm Xuanji," The Tianxu Hall Linglong communicates.

"What did you call me?"  Asks Little Six.

"I can hear you," says Xuanji.  "Sixth Senior, I'm Xuanji."

Little Six drops his basket of laundry.  "Xuanji, what's going on?"

"We tried to resummon Linglong's primordial spirit, but we heard your voice instead.  Where's the other half of her primordial spirit?"

"It's inside the flower demon who looks exactly like her," says Little Six.

"It's no wonder Wu Tong treasures her so much," Sifeng remarks.

"Sixth Senior, did you stay in Tianxu Hall in order to find the other half of her primordial spirit?"  Asks Xuanji.  "I don't believe that you're joining them of your own accord.  And I don't believe that you killed Second Senior."

Little Six sighs.  "Since it has come to this, Xuanji, you're the only person who still believes in me.  I will find a way and retrieve the remaining half of her primordial spirit.  And I'll apologize to Master."

Teng She sighs.  "Dumb mortal, do you think you can retrieve it without any problem?"

Xuanji looks at him.

"You need the Soul Bell, you know."  Teng She responds.

"Soul Bell?"  Asks Little Six.

"Since Wu Tong can steal Linglong's primordial spirit, it means that he has the Soul Bell," says Sifeng.  "Minyan, try to steal the Soul Bell from him.  We'll meet up in Mount Buzhou."

Little Six nods.

"So what if you manage to steal it?"  Teng She asks.  "You need to know how to use it."

"Teng She, stop beating around the bush," Xuanji admonishes.  "Just tell us if you have the solution."

Teng She points his finger skyward.

"I'll make you sweet and sour fish, as well," says Sifeng.

"Kid, turn around," says Teng She to Little Six.

Little Six turns around.

Teng She uses orange flame energy to inscribe a talisman on Little Six's back, through the Tianxu Hall Linglong.  Ruo Yu watches carefully.

"What is this?"  Asks Little Six.

"The Sun Moon charm," says Teng She.  "After I draw that, I can detect you within within a proximity of 2.5 kilometers."

Sifeng gives Teng She a look.

"We can't just bring her wherever we go, right?"  Asks Teng She.  "As long as you're able to steal the Soul Bell, I can retrieve the other half of her primordial spirit outside of Mount Buzhou."

"We should act in haste," Xuanji smiles.  "Let's go to Mount Buzhou now.  Sixth Senior, please be careful."

"Okay," Little Six nods.

The Golden energy leaves Tianxu Hall Linglong's body.  She takes a deep breath and feels her face and hair.  "What happened just now?"

"Nothing," says Little Six.

"Wait!  I felt like I was trying to say something," says Linglong.  "Oh, right!  Didn't you let me use a mirror that could show me my past lives?  Can you show it to me again?"

Little Six pulls the mirror fragment out of his hanfu.  Linglong takes it, and gazes into it.  She sees Wu Tong ramming the Soul Bell into her body, and her lily form disintegrating.   She sees him putting half of Linglong's purple energy inside her forehead.

Linglong gasps.  "So, this wasn't my true look after all."

"You saw everything?"  Asks Little Six.  "You know what's going on now?"

Linglong nods.  "Wu Tong gege replaced half of my primordial spirit with Linglong's.  And my primordial spirit was left at the place I trained."

"Where's the place?"  Asks Little Six.

"It's at..."

 

 

 

Ruo Yu, Linglong, and Little Six go to the boulder where the Flower Demon had been discovered by Wu Tong.  

Ruo Yu is adding streams of fiery energy to the area, and extracting the Flower Demon's remaining half of her primordial spirit.  He places it in a yellow vial, and hands it off to Little Six.

"Give it to me!"  Linglong begs.

"It's no use, even if you take it back," says Little Six.  "But we can help you."

"Help me?  Do you think I don't know what you're plotting?  You just wanted Linglong's primordial spirit, right?  I won't fall for it."

"Yes," says Ruo Yu.  "We're trying to retrieve her primordial spirit.  But don't you want to be yourself?  It's a win-win situation, so why not?"

Linglong looks at Little Six.

"Are you afraid that Wu Tong won't like you if you return to your past self?"  Asks Ruo Yu.

"It's not that!"  Linglong insists.  "Wu Tong gege likes me.  Not that Linglong.  Fine, I'll do it, then.  I'll prove to you that Wu Tong gege likes me.  And I'm not a replacement of that Linglong."  (And that is the insidiousness of establishing a romantic relationship with someone who is pining after someone else.  You serve as the placeholder, and as the generic version of the other person, losing yourself in the process).

"Fine," says Little Six.  "But now, we lack something that could extract one's primordial spirit.  We need Wu Tong's Soul Bell."

"I saw that bell before," says Linglong.  "But Wu Tong gege doesn't allow me to touch it.  Will you return my primordial spirit if I steal the bell for you?"

"Yes," says Little Six.

Ruo Yu nods.

Linglong looks at them cautiously.  "Fine.  I'll steal the bell, but you must keep your promise."

"It's a deal, then," says Little Six.

"See you in three days," says Ruo Yu.  "And we'll help the primordial spirits return to their bodies."

"Okay," Linglong nods.

 

 

 

Teng She, Sifeng, and Xuanji fly to the entrance of Mount Buzhou.  Teng She places the Sun Moon charm over the circular sculpure on the altar.

Meanwhile, Little Six and Ruo Yu are running through Tianxu Hall.

"Hurry!"  Whispers Little Six.  With his hand, Little Six draws forth violet energy, and touches his stomach.  The Sun Moon charm shines brightly on his back.

"Xuanji," says Little Six.  "Xuanji!"

"Sixth Senior, we're outside of Mount Buzhou now.  How's your progress?"  Asks Xuanji.

"Everything is going well.  Wu Tong will go on a retreat tomorrow.  That flower demon promised us that she'll steal the bell for us.  And she'll help us in retrieving Linglong's primordial spirit."

"Minyan," says Sifeng, "once you acquire her spirit, try to find a way out.  We'll meet you at the altar outside."

"Okay.  Wait for my good news."

 

 

 

Wu Tong is carefully getting dressed, while Linglong is applying makeup.  She looks over at him, and then notices the Soul Bell on the table.  She walks over and gives him a hug.

"Wu Tong gege, I can't bear to part with you."

He puts his arms around her.  "You're missing me already?  It's only for one day.  I'll be back soon."

"The back of the mountain is cold.  This shirt is too thin for you.  You should change it," says Linglong.

"It's fine, I won't be cold."

"I'll be angry if you catch a cold," says Linglong.

He takes her hands.  "Look at your temper.  You're angry over this?  Fine.  I'll listen to you."

Wu Tong takes off his outer robe, and while he's getting a thicker one, Linglong carefully looks around.  She switches a fake Soul Bell with the real one.

"How is it?"  Asks Wu Tong.  "Are you happy now?  Is it thick enough?"

Linglong smiles and nods.  "Much better."

He picks up the fake Soul Bell, and ties it to his belt.  "I'll leave now."

 

 

 

Linglong rushes to meet up with Little Six and Ruo Yu.  

"Here," she hands the Soul Bell to Little Six.

"The Soul Bell.  I've finally obtained it," Little Six says excitedly.

"Wu Tong gege will return tonight.  You better be quick if you want to escape," says Linglong.

"Okay.  We'll start now," says Little Six.  With a twist of his hand, he touches his energy to his torso.

"They're here," Teng She says non chalantly to an expectant Xuanji and Sifeng.  He generates flame energy from his hand.

"Teng She," says Little Six.  "We have the Soul Bell.  What should we do now?"

"Teng She," says Xuanji.

"Xuanji?"  Asks Teng She.

"Hurry up!"  Says Xuanji.

"Ah," says Teng She.  "Wait."

"Wait!"  Says Linglong.  "Didn't you say you'd return my primordial spirit?  What should I do now?"

"Don't rush me!"  Snaps Teng She.  "We'll do it one by one.  I need to extract the primordial spirit in your current body."

"Don't worry, I'll keep my word," says Little Six.  "I know.  Actually, you're not evil.  You should leave Tianxu Hall after you retrieve your own primordial spirit.  It's hard for you to acquire a human form.  Find a peaceful place, and find a person who truly loves you."

"Don't be too full of yourself," says Linglong.  "I did this all because of Tong gege.  After you retrieve Linglong's primordial spirit, we will be unrelated.  None of you can tell me what to do."

"Are you done or not?" Teng She asks impatiently.  "I'm going to cast my spell now.  Kid, stand beside that demon."

"Okay," says Little Six.  He releases the Soul Bell from his palm, and it levitates.

With several sharp movements of his arms, Teng She generates fiery energy.

Little Six mirrors him.

"Spirit transfer!"  Shouts Teng She.

Little Six and Teng She simultaneously shoot energy from their fingers.  Linglong is covered in a golden glow.

Little Six and Teng She move their hands again, and the Soul Bell activates, bringing fiery energy into Linglong's forehead.

"Sss," says Teng She.  He and Little Six drags their fingers across the air, pulling reddish purple streams of energy from Linglong's forehead.

Little Six transfers the energy from the Soul Bell into a yellow vial.  "Linglong, I can finally bring you home."

Xuanji smiles.

"Minyan," says Sifeng, "you mustn't delay any longer.  Her primordial spirit needs to return to her body immediately."

"Okay," says Little Six.  He places the vial in the chest panel of his hanfu.  "What about her?"  He looks at the Flower Demon.

Teng She laughs.  "Stupid.  Just do the same thing I did just now.  Use the Five Elements Spell, and find the correct position.  The Flower Demon's element is wood.  Use water element for the spell.  When her primordial spirit returns to her body, she'll become her original self."

"Do what you did?"  Little Six scratches his head.  He slowly rotates his arms and does miniature movements like a cheerleader learning a new dance routine.  A ball of pink energy forms between his hands.

Ruo Yu sneaks up behind him and stealthily grabs the Sun Moon Charm from his back.  It disintegrates in his hand.

Teng She jumps, and sniffs the air.

"Teng She, I don't understand at all," says Little Six.  "Why don't you do it again?  Eh?  Teng She?"

Teng She looks around, trying to figure out the problem.  The Sun Moon Charm he placed on the circular sculpture is still glowing.  "It's cut off."

"Cut off?"  Asks Xuanji.  "Teng She, can you try to detect them again?"

"I don't know what's going on," says Teng She.  "Maybe the charm fell off.  Anyway, I've given him the instructions.  It's an easy task.  Let's just wait here."

"Huh?"  Xuanji is slightly panicked.

"Teng She?"  Little Six is feeling his back for the charm.  "Teng She?  This is bad.  How did the charm disappear?  I can't remember the things he taught me."

"It's fine," says Ruo Yu.  "It's fine.  I remember them."

Little Six breathes a sigh of relief, and pats him on the shoulder.  "Ruo Yu, it's lucky that I have you.  Let's return her primordial spirit to her body now."

"Wait!" says Ruo Yu.  "We need to let her do something for us."

"What are you doing?" Little Six asks anxiously.

"Her primordial spirit is not in her body," says Ruo Yu.  "I can use the Jade Flute to hypnotize her, and steal the spirit keys."

"Did you plan for that long ago?"

"Now that Wu Tong isn't here, no one will be able to stop Linglong.  This is a rare chance."

"You're using her!"

"This is our reward for retrieving her primordial spirit," argues Ruo Yu.

"We can ask for her help if we want the spirit keys," says Little Six.  "We mustn't use her to our own advantage!  A gentleman wouldn't do this!"

"A gentleman?  You severed one of your senior's arms to join Tianxu Hall.  Is that what a gentleman would do?  Minyan, did you forget what your master told you?  You can do everything it takes to retrieve the spirit keys.  Besides, the Flower Demon won't be in danger.  We've sacrificed so much for this. If we don't retrieve the spirit keys, your second senior will have died in vain."

Little Six clenches his fist.

 

 

 

The hypnotized Flower Demon walks through Tianxu Hall.  The guards see her and bow.  "Miss Linglong, this is forbidden ground, so..."

Another guard interrupts him.  "We mustn't mess with Miss Linglong. We'll die if she gets angry."

"Miss Linglong, please."  The guard lets her through the doorway.

Ruo Yu and Little Six are anxiously waiting.  Linglong strolls out with a beautiful red box.  Ruo Yu takes it from her, opens it up, and is relieved to find some important items that belong to Lize Palace.

"She did retrieve them for us," Ruo Yu lies.

"What is this?"  Asks Little Six.  These are most certainly not the spirit keys he recalls seeing.

"This," Ruo Yu looks side to side.  "This is the Flying Dragon Seal, a treasure of Lize Palace.   I'm sure the spy stole this with the spirit key."  Ruo Yu puts it in his hanfu.  "I can take this back, as well."

"But why is there only one spirit key?"  Little Six definitely noticed the Lize Palace key in the box.  "The spirit keys of Fuyu Island and Xuanyuan Sect were stolen, as well.  There should be three spirit keys here."

"Don't tell me they hid the other two spirit keys in a different place?"  Says Ruo Yu.  "It's our miscalculation, but now we've alerted them.  Let's leave first."

"Okay," says Little Six.  "Return her primordial spirit to her body.  We'll leave after that."

"Okay."  Ruo Yu holds out the Soul Bell, and Little Six opens the yellow vial.

With a sharp movement of his hands, Ruo Yu activates the Soul Bell.  Purple energy streaming from the vial surrounds it, before going into the Flower Demon's forehead.

"Who's there?"  Shouts a guard.

"Let's go!"  Panicks Little Six.

Ruo Yu and Little Six book it out of there.  They are quickly blocked and surrounded by guards.

Ruo Yu and Little Six kick, block, and throw the guards.  Before anyone can catch them, they soar above the mess.

 

 

 

Xuanji and Sifeng are nervously waiting at the entrance.

"Where is Sixth Senior?"  Asks Xuanji.

"Let's check it out," says Sifeng.

Teng She is sleeping on the steps, like a snake on a hot rock, while Xuanji and Sifeng investigate.

Little Six and Ruo Yu are running through the barren wasteland.  They rest against some rock formations to catch their breath.  They are decently hidden as a swarm of guards appears.

"Everyone, listen up!  I'm sure they're still around!"

"Hurry!"

"Go!"

"I'll distract them," says Ruo Yu.  "You leave first."

Little Six stops him.  "Ruo Yu, we have to leave together!  Xuanji and the rest are at the altar."

"There are too many enemies.  If this continues, both of us will die.  I'll wait for you in Qingmu Town."  Ruo Yu darts off.

"Ruo Yu!"

Ruo Yu runs to the cluster of guards, summons his sword, and attacks.

Little Six makes a run for it, while Ruo Yu fights.  Ruo Yu is cornered against the edge of a cliff.

Little Six sees what's happening, and before he can do anything, Ruo Yu is pushed backward off the precipice.

"Ruo Yu!"  Shouts Little Six.

The guards turn and attack Little Six.  He fights them off, blocking and pushing.  A guard kicks him, and he rolls down a hill.

Teng She, Xuanji, and Sifeng fly in, and take everyone by surprise.

Teng She throws a huge flame at the guards, knocking them over like a house of cards.

"Sixth Senior!"  Yells Xuanji.

"Xuanji!  Sifeng!"  Yells Little Six.  "Go and save Ruo Yu!"

"Ruo Yu?"  Asks Xuanji.

"Teng She, go and save Ruo Yu," says Sifeng.  "We'll escape with Minyan for now."

"Tss," says Teng She before flipping his hair and walking away.
