American Perspectives: The Demon Invasion Pt. 2 ("Love and Redemption" Ep. 21)

"They're still hanging around," says Sect Leader Chu.  "I'm afraid they're going to come once the formation is broken."

Many Dragons are breathing fire onto one particular spot of the dome.  The intensity of the heat causes the top part of the formation to temporarily halt, but begin again, barely keeping the dome intact.

"They're using the firebomb," says Dongfang.  "They want to destroy the eye of the formation.  I'll help my disciples.  We can't let the demons succeed!"

Deputy Chief is away from the multiple battles, standing by a cave, doing nothing, except enjoying the show.

 

"Qing Qi!"  Madam Dongfang calls out.

"Qing Rong!" Dongfang exclaims.  "What are you doing here?  Return now!"

"I'll follow you wherever you go," Madam Dongfang lies.

"This is the eye of the formation, and the demons are approaching.  This is too dangerous.  You better leave."

"I'm in danger?" asks Madam Dongfang.  "That means you're in danger, as well."

"I..." says Dongfang.

"I'm a criminal.  You've been protecting me all these years.  Without you, they'll never let me and our child stay.  So, I'd rather stay beside you, and die together."

He puts his hands on her shoulders.  "Qing Rong, don't say that.  I swore that I won't let you suffer anymore."  He hands her a golden disc.  "This is my pass.  The password is the year you and I first met.  With it, you'll become the Lord of the Island.  No one will dare to chase you out."

"Qing Qi," whispers Madam Dongfang.

He puts his hands over hers.  "Take care of yourself and the child.  Wait for my return.  Yu Ning!" he shouts.

Yu Ning masterfully slays a demon before making her way over.

"Bring Madam to the back of the mountain," says Dongfang.

"Yes!" says Yu Ning.  She puts her hand on Madam Dongfang's arm.  "Madam!"

"Go now," says Dongfang.

"Let's go," says Yu Ning.

The dragons firebomb the dome, and the bombs are finally breaking through.

Dongfang flies to the sword formation, and contributes his own power.

The Dragons are still able to bomb their way through, leaving huge holes in the dome.

Sifeng descends into the formation, and with his magic brush, he inscribes words in gold, and then shoots them upwards at a hole in the dome, generating fire with its application.  The hole rapidly shrinks and closes up.  He continues the process, in spite of it physically draining him.  He is on his knees, adding more power.

 

Xuanji comes across massive carnage on the ground.  Her Dingkun Sword is drawn and ready to go.  She sees Sifeng is alone in closing up the holes in the dome, while he's surrounded by corpses.

"Sifeng!" shouts Xuanji.  She flies over.  "Sifeng!  Uncle Dongfang!  Since they've brought so many firebombs, I'll blast them all with their own bombs!"  She throws the Dingkun Sword straight up into the air.  With sharply defined movements of her hands and arms, she casts a spell, emitting glittery, silver blue energy.  Her eyes turn ice blue, and she shoots upward, right through a hole.  With several beautiful spins, she reconnects with her Dingkun Sword among the ugly demonic dragons.  She summons the red energy from the firebombs, and it flows into her divine sword.  With a forceful push, the red energy turns into a huge fiery explosion in the sky, sending the dragons home crying.

Sifeng and Dongfang watch in amazement.

The icy blue begins to fade from her eyes, and she feels exhausted.  Her sword rejoins her body, and she quickly descends while half asleep.  Sifeng sees her free falling, and runs as fast as he can.  She safely lands in his arms.

"Xuanji!  Xuanji!" says Sifeng.

She coughs, and wakes herself up.  "Sifeng."

He helps her stand up.  "Are you hurt?"

Xuanji shakes her head.

"You're really reckless," Sifeng scolds.

Xuanji smiles at him.  "Where are the demons?"

"They're all dead."  He continues to frown.  He's still feeling a bit rattled by everything: issues with Little Six, the Love Stone, and now Xuanji's gutsy move.

"Sifeng, were you worried about me just now?"

He tries to keep a hardened expression, and to maintain his composure.  "We're on a journey together.  It's normal for me to be worried."

"I thought you were ignoring me because of the Love Stone."

Sifeng looks down.

"Sifeng, that doesn't count," Xuanji assures him.

Before he can say anything, before he can melt into her arms, the disciples and Sect Leaders arrive en masse.

"Xuanji, what happened?" Sect Leader Chu asks sternly.

Xuanji smiles.  "The demons were too much!  I couldn't stand it, and I lit a fire."

Deputy Chief quietly joins the group, and he's carefully observing Xuanji.

"I let them have a taste of their own medicine," Xuanji continues.  She looks at her hands and smiles, "Since I can't feel anything anyway."

"You silly girl," says Sect Leader Chu.  "You're too reckless."

"Xuanji, what if you hurt yourself by doing something that reckless?" asks Hao Chen.  "Aunt Yinghong, please examine her body."

Aunt Hong pulls back Xuanji's sleeve and notices her blistered hand.  "It's just a minor burn.  She'll be fine."

Sect Leader Chu sighs.  "You created an explosion just now, right?"

Xuanji rubs her hands together and smiles sheepishly.

"You're so reckless," Sect Leader Chu continues.

"Fuyu Island was saved," Dongfang points out.  "Xuanji, you've performed well.  I'll set up a feast for you next time."

Xuanji smiles.  Deputy Chief rolls his eyes.

"Report!" a male voice shouts.  "Master, we captured a live demon."

"Great, keep him alive," says Dongfang.  "We'll interrogate him later."

"Yes."

"Where's Sect Leader Zhu Shi?" asks Dongfang.

Deputy Chief slowly waves his black fan. "He's the Sect Leader of Xuanyuan Sect.  Ordinary demons can't do anything against him.  Why don't you follow me to the dock to search for remaining demons?"

"Hao Chen," says Sect Leader Chu.  "Bring your fellow disciples, and follow him."

"Yes," Hao Chen nods.

Xuanji smells something in the air.  She approaches Sect Leader Chu.  "Father, I'm sure there are demons remaining.  I caught their scent some time ago, but it's not very obvious.  But now, I can sense it clearly."

"She can sense the scent of demons when she's that young?" asks Dongfang.

"Xuanji has always been sensitive toward the demon's scent," says Sifeng.  "She has never been wrong."

Xuanji nods.  She points.  "Over there."

"The Treasure Vault?" asks Dongfang.

 

Yu Ning is walking Madam Dongfang through the foggy forest. 

"Madam, wait here.  I'll take a look," says Yu Ning.

Yu Ning runs ahead, Madam Dongfang is walking quickly behind her.  With a spell, she renders Yu Ning unconscious, and she shoots a needle in her neck for good measure.

Madam Dongfang happily runs to the Treasure Vault, Dongfang's pass in hand, ready to meet her beloved.

"This is great!" she exclaims as she meets Steward Ouyang at the door.  "I finally got the disc!"

"Qing Rong," says Steward Ouyang, "it must've been hard for you."

"For you, everything is worth it." Madam Dongfang smiles.

Steward Ouyang embraces her tightly.  "Let's not delay any further.  Let's unlock the vault."  He breaks their embrace.  "We'll leave together once I obtain the spirit key."

Madam Dongfang places the disc over the correct spot on the lock.  She aims her cupped palm toward the door, emitting light blue energy.

The disc begins to turn the lock.  The doors swing open.  Steward Ouyang laughs as he enters the vault first.

They walk toward a shortened pillar in the center of the room.  A large dome holding the Destiny Pearl is perched on top of it.

"One from Xuanyuan Sect," says Madam Dongfang, "and one from the hilt of the Moon Blade.  Now, you have two spirit keys."

Dongfang, followed by his disciples, is frantically running to the Treasure Vault, still in denial that his wife could possibly have anything to do with this.

Madam Dongfang and Steward Ouyang are frantically escaping through the woods.  They make it to the edge of a cliff.

"I'm sure they're waiting for us at the dock," says Madam Dongfang.  "We'll be discovered if we go there."

"We won't go to the dock," Steward Ouyang assures her.  "Look at this cliff," he points.  "It's connected to the back of the island.  And the sword trap is weak at this spot.  I've created an opening from the chaos just now.  We'll escape from there."

Madam Dongfang smiles.  "You're thoughtful, indeed."

"Qing Rong, hand over the spirit keys and Moon Blade to me," says Steward Ouyang.

"Both the treasures and I will be yours when we leave.  Why are you in a hurry?"

He clenches his fist.  "Okay," he says, keeping his expression soft.

They hear a horse nearby.  "This is bad," says Madam Dongfang.  "They should be at the Treasure Vault now."

"Let's go!" says Steward Ouyang.  He grabs her by the waist, and they fly off the cliff, and into the trees.

Dongfang sees the door to the Treasure Vault is wide open.  He has an awful feeling in his stomach about this. 

The pillar in the middle of the room is empty.

"How did this happen?" asks Dongfang.

"Brother Dongfang, who else can unlock the vault besides you?"  Asks Sect Leader Chu.

Dongfang gasps.  "Qing Rong.  QIng Rong would never do this!"  He says in disbelief.

"I think they're still nearby," says Sect Leader Chu.  "Let's split up and search."

Madam Dongfang and Steward Ouyang are running further through the trees.  They are sure they are finally in the clear, when they are faced head on by Dongfang and his disciples.

"Ouyang Tong!" Shouts Dongfang, his sword drawn.  "I've treated you well for the past four years.  Why did you betray me?  Seems like you were bewitched by the demons!"

Steward Ouyang smiles and laughs.  Madam Dongfang smiles smugly.

Steward Ouyang spreads his arms out.  He walks toward Dongfang.  "Me? Bewitched by demons?"  He passes his hand over his face, and he shifts into his true identity: Wolf.  "I'm a demon myself.  You humans are overestimating yourselves.  Qing Rong, let's go."

She holds his hand.

Dongfang's heart drops. "Qing Rong, what's wrong?  Don't be afraid of him!  I'm here!  Come over here!"

"Why should I go there?" Madam Dongfang asks haughtily.  "He's the person I love.  I'll follow him wherever he goes."

"You love him?" Dongfang asks in disbelief.  "No.  You must be bewitched!  Did you forget that you cried because you didn't want me to die?  Did you forget about the child in your tummy?"

"The child in my tummy belongs to him and me," says Madam Dongfang. "Listen!  I only feel disgust for all the things you did for me..."

Dongfang's heart breaks.  "You're lying.  Both of you are lying!"  He picks up his sword.  "I'm going to kill you!"

Ouyang/Wolf maneuvers his arms and brings forth thick red and black smoke as Dongfang and his disciples charge at them.  The smoke violently pushes them back.

Wolf smirks.  "You're digging your own grave!" He charges at Dongfang, and slams him into a tree.  Dongfang rebounds, and continues the fight.

It's red demon fire vs. golden cultivators' fire.  The red fire is more forceful, knocking Dongfang to the ground.  Dongfang clutches his chest and vomits blood.

"Master Dongfang!" His disciples run to him.

Wolf continues to attack.  His hand turns into a Wolf's paw, claws out.  He goes right for Dongfang.

Sect Leader Chu fiercely blocks him.  Clashing swords with fire, and backing away.

"Master Dongfang!" His disciples help him up.

It's Sect Leader Chu's energy vs. Wolf's demonic smoke.  Wolf momentarily disappears, only to reappear in multiple places through quick bursts of flame.  Sect Leader Chu is pushed to his knees, and he vomits blood.

"Senior!" Aunt Hong rushes to him.

Wolf materializes in an explosion in the sky.

Xuanji and Sifeng attack him with their swords, but he keeps disappearing and reappearing.  

Sect Leader Chu sees two cuts on his hand.

"Are you okay?" asks Aunt Hong.

"He struck me with poison," says Sect Leader Chu.  Emitting energy from his palm, he runs it over his cuts.

Wolf twists his left hand toward Sifeng, and his right hand toward Xuanji.  With a twist, he flies upward.  He shoots fire from both hands.  Sifeng and Xuanji block the fire with their swords.  He continues to shoot fire at them, disappearing and reappearing.

Sifeng and Wolf go head to head.  Fire from Wolf's paw getting close to golden energy from Sifeng's hand.

"Be careful of his poison strike!" Sect Leader Chu warns.

Sifeng and Wolf are in a stare down as they try to subdue each other with their energy.

Little Silver Flower jumps from Sifeng's hanfu, in snake form.  She bites Wolf squarely on the neck, and slithers back to Sifeng.

"I'll kill you!" shouts Wolf.

Xuanji activates the blue lightning power in the Dingkun Sword.  She flies high into the air, and strikes Wolf with her lightning power.  The shock reverberates through his body, breaking his hold on Sifeng.

"Sifeng!" shouts Xuanji.

Wolf falls to the ground, his wolf paws turned back into human hands.

Dongfang looks at him balefully.  "I'll kill you!" he charges at Wolf, but Madam Dongfang blocks him.

"Dongfang Qing Qi, if you want to kill him, you should kill me first!"

"Qing Rong, you..." Dongfang drops his sword.

Wolf slowly rises, clutching his chest.  "The demons and the immortals will have an inevitable war.  If you humans want to interrupt us, you should be prepared for your death.  I, a wolf, will remember," he wipes the blood from his face, "what you did to me."  He grabs Madam Dongfang and disappears in a thin cloud of smoke.

"Qing Rong!" Dongfang calls desperately.  "Qing Rong!"

Xuanji starts to run.

"Xuanji, don't chase after them!" Scolds Sect Leader Chu.

"But they took away the spirit keys," says Xuanji.  "I need to get them back!"

"Xuanji," says Hao Chen, "even the two Sect Leaders can't defeat him.  You'll die if you go against him."

"But without the spirit keys, I can't retrieve Linglong's primordial spirit!  Just let me chase after them!  We have no time!"

"Linglong has lost her primordial spirit," says Sect Leader Chu.  "And now, you want me to lose another daughter?"

"Father, I can't just abandon Linglong!"

"This battle is a major setback for us.  We mustn't waste our energy on unnecessary things now," says Sect Leader Chu.

"Father, how is saving Linglong unnecessary?  Please, don't sacrifice her!"

"Xuanji, do you think Sect Leader doesn't feel sad at all?"  Hao Chen admonishes.  "You should try to understand his feelings."

 

The Sect Leaders are meeting up in Dongfang's home. 

"How could we not notice that Sect Leader Zhu Shi was a wolf in disguise?"  Asks Valley Master Rong.  "There's a demon spell that can transform demons into humans by using their blood.  It's extremely hard to master.  I didn't expect the demons to be this powerful now."

"This is bad," says Sect Leader Chu.  "Tianxu Hall knows about the location of Devil Star's core now.  And, they have two spirit keys.  If they get two more from Dianjing Valley Sect and Lize Palace, they will be able to revive the Devil Star at any time."

Deputy Chief waves his fan calmly.  "I think you should calm down.  We still have the two spirit keys, right?"

"Deputy Chief, you're treating this too casually!" says Valley Master Rong.  "Before this, we thought demons were stupid creatures with no intelligence.  But in reality, they're far more cunning and powerful than we thought.   One wolf is enough to mess us up.  I don't dare to imagine the power of the entire Tianxu Hall."

"It's time we act cautiously," says Dongfang.

"Sure," says Deputy Chief.  "You are right.  You have a point.  So, what should we do now?"

"I've sent someone to find out where Wolf is," says Sect Leader Chu. "I hope we can find the location of Tianxu Hall, as well.  But now, they've obtained two spirit key.  Dianjing Valley Sect and Lize Palace, please take good care of the spirit keys.  We mustn't let the demons succeed."

"I understand," says Valley Master Rong.  "Dianjing Valley Sect is filled with traps, and we haven't lost anything before.  I'll improve the security once I return.  Everyone, please don't worry."

"Lize Palace is located in a very remote place," says Deputy Chief.  "I could even detect the presence of a fly.  The spirit key won't be taken away. Sect Leader Chu, you should be more concerned about the Secret Ground."

 

Wolf is sitting by the campfire, trying to heal his wounds.  It's not going as smoothly as he wants.

Although I was hurt, I managed to obtain Sect Leader Chu's blood while I was trying to get the spirit keys.  This is a pleasant surprise.

He pulls out a green vial, and formulates a droplet of Sect Leader Chu's blood in his hand.  It levitates before it floats into the vial.
