Even though we got a happy ending, the transition points in getting there were exceedingly rough. Trying to get to sleep after watching Episode 31 made it difficult for me to breathe, and I woke up with a headache and puffy eyes, but ready to take on Episodes 32-36. I was anxious and I had no idea what to expect. I had seen a couple of spoilers ahead of time, but I still didn't know how the whole picture would turn out. The rough spots were (spoiler alert): Orchid dying, Dongfang Qingcang wanting to stay in a perpetual dream realm (that part really broke my heart, to the extent that I had a hard time breathing. I wish I was being overdramatic when I say that, but I wasn't), Orchid reincarnating as the Goddess Xiyun and pretending to forget Dongfang (that's a narrative that I normally don't like, and when I watched "Boys Over Flowers," I felt it ruined the rest of the show. In this case, it worked well). My god, my heart was getting shredded.
Even thinking about all of that now is making me cry!
However, I think that speaks volumes in regards to the excellence of the writing, acting, and character development. I could really feel the genuine love, and then pain between Orchid and Dongfang Qingcang.
And, I decided to start from the beginning and watch it again, as I most certainly did not want it to end! I do wish that it had shown them getting married at the end, but I'm glad Dongfang reincarnated. His death scene also broke my heart. Hell, the scene of him on the bridge talking about Orchid to the Goddess Xiyun broke my heart. I'm telling you, those last 5 episodes were brutal!
I am glad that we got a happy ending. Sometimes, I find too many tragic endings to be a bit tiresome.
