American Perspectives: "They're just afraid I'll have my period on my wedding day" ("The Wolf" Ep. 3)
Prior to Ma Zhaixing making this statement, with all the historical and fantasy K and C-Dramas that I watch, it never occurred to me that the auspicious wedding date was made in accordance with the menstrual cycle. I figured the auspicious date may have been picked around the probability of conception, but the oh so obvious menstruation issue never crossed my mind. I also figured (and this was definitely more prominent in my mind) it just had more to do with good luck, the likelihood of the marriage lasting, and the benefits to be had by both families. So, when she made the remark about her period, something suddenly clicked, and I thought: "Well, duh." Mainly due to likelihood of conception, and how its caculated in accordance with ovulation and menstruation; but was it also due to the messiness of a period colliding with the expected wedding night sex? It would make total sense.
So, in that sense: Mind blown. By the way, she did not end up marrying her bethrothed in Episode 3, who most certainly was not Wolf Boy/Prince Bo. She just so happens to think he's dead, but misses him terribly, and shows it in her intense interest in wolves. Unbeknownst to her, Wolf Boy is hiding in plain sight, it's not going to go well, and we will touch on that in tomorrow's entry.
