American Perspectives: Ning Que's Loyalty is Admirable. "Ever Night 2" Ep 1-17 Response
Hello everybody! It's been a few days since I was last online. I've been really busy, so I apologize for keeping anyone waiting!
Many people have had negative things to say about "Ever Night 2" due to the substantial re-casting, and what appears to be a slightly lower budget. I still love it. Some parts I like better than Season 1, such as the episodes moving a little more quickly. I am also enjoying 王鶴棣/Dylan Wang, which was my whole reason for watching this show in the first place! Sure, I could have skipped Season 1 and started from Season 2, but I don't like missing pieces, and there are many references to Season 1 throughout this show.
In Episode 6, Sang Sang is outed as the Child of Hades. Everyone assumed the Child of Hades would be Ning Que, but they were certainly in for a surprise to find out that it was actually Sang Sang. Initially, Ning Que is in denial, but it absolutely does not cause him to distance himself from her, nor does it cause him to love her any less. Instead, he defends her more. Even when he realizes that she is indeed the child of Hades, IT DOES NOT MATTER. He is still there for her in this vulnerable time, fighting tooth and nail, which is exactly what a good man is supposed to do! He is an excellent male role model in regards to protecting his scapegoated wife.
He does not give a shit about what anyone else has to say, and he does not say passive aggressive remarks to her to make her feel ashamed. He also does not hold it against her that he has to make tremendous personal sacrifices to keep her safe (which is something American women, men, mothers, fathers could learn. My culture is weird about people making sacrifices for others, like it somehow makes you a weak and oppressed person).
Some people had grievances about 王鶴棣/Dylan Wang replacing 陳飛宇/Arthur Chen. Actually, I don't mind. (Of course I don't, as 王鶴棣 was my whole reason for watching this show). They both did a great job at playing Ning Que. 陳飛宇/Arthur Chen did a great job at portraying him as a smart mouth, sullen teenager. 王鶴棣/Dylan Wang does a great job at portraying Ning Que as a protective, affectionate adult, and a loyal husband. He has become optimistic in order to help Sang Sang during a time when so many people want to kill her. I'm not crazy about the dubbed voice they used for 王鶴棣/Dylan Wang, but it doesn't disrupt the story. I kind of wish they had used a voice artist who's voice was a closer match to 陳飛宇/Arthur Chen.
I really enjoy and appreciate seeing a man have this kind of loyalty towards a woman without it seeming too sappy.
